Make Up Clean Up

Ever since we did a few finishing touches on our apartment I have been organizing and trying a bunch of DIY cleanups. I have had 2 bags of makeup for  long time, just seems to have accumulated throughout the years, most of it never gets used so I did a prioritized makeup collection.

Things I found:

  1. 21 separate containers of eyeshadow
  2. 4 eyeliners
  3. 6 mascaras
  4. 6 brushes
  5. 1 concealer
  6. 1 bronzer
  7. 1 lip gloss
  8. some extra contact lenses
Talk about overconsumption. So I narrowed it down, had some fun with photography, and now I have one bag with a minimalistic amount of makeup. It was freeing and now I have a nice little bag of priority makeup.

What I am working on Tuesday.

With my Dad being an amazing handyman (taught me everything) and our obsession with HGTV, we decided an apartment facelift, after 3 years, was necessary.  We are still in the process of doing the bedroom. This is the start of it. Coco really helped a lot with the painting, we call this her "bear stance," it's pretty much the best thing I have ever seen.

For renovation- we bought this paper from Tempaper (about a year ago) to fit inside the amazing molding we have in our pre-war apartment building in Astoria. I bought an Espresso brown paint with primer over  an eggshell base from HomeDepot and used that as the framing color. Just remember to measure, I unfortunately did not and we ended up with one frame full and the other empty. The length of this amazing paper is about 57' so make sure you get enough to cover your space.

Update: Finally finished the wall in the bedroom (bottom pic), don't mind the yellow hue to the image. Our lighting in our apartment is not the best:)

Foodies...Fast New Yorker dinner!

Being a New Yorker can be tough on the stomach sometimes. Most of the time it is so easy to pick food up on the way to and from work, but that doesn't always work on our budget, so we come up with easy quick meals that are oh so very tasty.
What you will need (for 2 servings):

  • 1 pepper (I prefer red or orange, green don't have enough punch for me)
  • 1/2 yellow squash, chopped
  • 1 bag of cous cous (we use the kind you boil up water, pour and top with lid till it is solid, about 5-7 minutes)
  • 2 Thin n' Trim sausages, we use the Buffalo Chicken (we like it hot)
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • Mrs. Dash's extra spicy seasoning
Get the cous cous out of the way, boil some water, place the desired amount of cous cous in tupperware, boil water and follow instructions on bag. Cooking the other ingredients; turn stove top on low in medium sized pan, sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon olive oil, wait for heat to kick in, mince up garlic, let simmer for a second, letting the delicious aroma fill your house. Add in chopped pepper and squash. Chop up the sausage, place in pan and let everything simmer together for about 3-4 mins on medium heat. Plate; one scoop of cous cous, and a heaping serving of everything that is in the pan. Sometimes we add a dash of Frank's Red Hot Sauce cause "I put that shit on everything."
